Access & Transportation

Approaching Melbourne City Center

Although Melbourne has more than one airport, Melbourne Tullamarine Airport is the only airport for international flights. Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) is approximately 23 kilometers from the city center. The SkyBus offers direct transfers to Southern Cross Station, with services departing every 10 minutes and taking around 30-45 minutes. Alternatively, taxis and rideshare services such as Uber and Ola are available from the airport, offering a direct route to the city.

Traffic Information

The venue address for your navigation system is:
La Trobe University City Campus
Level 2/360 Collins St, Melbourne VIC 3000
The Collins Street campus is located in the Melbourne CBD, and is well serviced by trains, trams and buses.

Local Transport

Melbourne’s public transport system, including trains, trams, and buses, is managed by Public Transport Victoria (PTV). A Myki card is required for travel on all public transport services. Myki cards can be purchased and topped up at stations, tram stops, and many retail outlets.

For more detailed information on schedules, routes, and fares, please visit the Public Transport Victoria (PTV) website (https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/).

By Train:

The closest railway stations are Flinders Street and Southern Cross stations, located just a short walk from the campus. These stations are the major hubs in the city, connected to multiple train lines including the City Loop, making it easily accessible from various suburbs. Trains run frequently throughout the day, providing a reliable option for reaching the campus.

You can view train timetables at the PTV website.

By Tram:

Trams in the Free Tram route Melbourne run regularly throughout the day, making it easy to explore the city and access the venue. It's important to note that while tram travel is free within the Free Tram Zone, passengers still need to touch on and off with their Myki smart card when travelling outside of the zone.

By Buses:

Several bus routes pass near the La Trobe City Campus. Key routes include:

  • Route 200: From Bulleen to City via Kew and Richmond
  • Route 207: From Doncaster Shoppingtown to City via Kew and Clifton Hill
  • Route 250: From La Trobe University (Bundoora) to City via Northcote

These buses stop close to the campus, offering another public transport option.

By Car:

Driving to the campus is feasible via major roads and highways. However, parking in the central business district can be limited and costly. Public car parks are available nearby, but using public transportation is often more convenient and cost-effective. For those who choose to drive, planning ahead for parking is recommended.
